Introduction of cosmetics biocide (preservative)- Bronopol
Abstract: Bronopol(2-Bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol, CAS: 52-51-7) has a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity and can effectively inhibit most bacteria, especially against Gram-negative bacteria. Unstable under high temperature and alkaline conditions, light will decompose and turn yellow or brown.Bronopol is widely used as a biocide and preservative in cosmetics.
Keywords: bronopol; 2-Bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol; CAS: 52-51-7; C3H6BrNO4; preservative; biocide; cosmetic; anti-mildew
1.Function and efficacy
Bronopol(2-Bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol, CAS: 52-51-7) has no biological accumulation and can be quickly decomposed by hydrolysis, photodegradation and biodegradation in the environment. It has excellent broad-spectrum and efficient all-round capture of microorganisms, and rapidly inhibits the erosion and growth of gram-positive and Gram-negative fungi. Bronopol can kill by breaking the bond between bacteria and algae proteins. After contact with microorganisms, bronopol can rapidly and irreversibly inhibit their growth, resulting in the death of microbial cells. Bronopol has a strong inhibition and killing effect on common molds, bacteria, fungi, algae, etc., achieving the ideal anti-mildew and bactericidal effect.

3.2 Bronopol can be used as a biocide and preservative for textile printing and dyeing and papermaking leather pulp.
3.3 Bronopol can be used as a biocide and preservative for powdered products that need to be mixed with water.
3.4 Bronopol can be used as a biocide and preservative for wall latex paint.
3.5 Bronopol can be used as a biocide and preservative of glutinous rice glue, acrylic pigment and color paste.
4.Precautions for use
4.1 Before bronopol is used as a biocide and preservative, it must be tested for compatibility to confirm that it does not react with the system or discolor the system before use.
4.2 When bronopol is used as a biocide and preservative, it should be prevented from reacting with emulsifiers in emulsions, resulting in flocculation or demulsification of coatings. Especially waterproof paint, alkali resistant primer, and pure acrylic emulsion and fine particle size emulsion system.
4.3 When bronopol is used as a biocide and preservative, it is necessary to prevent discoloration of the product, which may cause discoloration of the product system, especially construction glues and light colored real stone paints.
4.4 When bronopol is used as a biocide and preservative, chemical burns should be prevented. Direct contact of bronopol with skin may cause chemical burns. Once in contact with skin, rinse immediately with tap water and soap for more than five minutes.
4.5 Residue and liquid residues in bronopol packaging containers should not be discharged directly into the environment.
4.6 The shelf life of bronopol is 12 months under dark, sealed and normal temperature conditions.
